Surprising No to upload filter
On Thursday (5 July) the Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg surprisingly voted against the proposal of the Committee on Legal Affairs to start negotiations on reforming copyright law. The next step will now be to resubmit the issue to the plenary in September instead of to the Member States. The focus will then be on potential amendments and adjustments to the reform.
The EU copyright law package has been the subject of controversial discussion from all quarters for many weeks. Just on 20 June, the European Parliament voted by a narrow majority in favor of the controversial introduction of upload filters – the first parliamentary move towards passing copyright laws.
